No, it's not a trash can/rubbish bin - it's a sap bucket!

After 31 years in the United States, I find myself more American than I ever expected to be, yet not so American in many ways.

What is a sap bucket?
A sap bucket is used to collect sap from maple trees to make maple syrup.
I miss maple syrup... I don't eat it on pancakes (American pancakes) but love it with sweet potatoes... it's one of the strange things that you don't realize is so very regional until you leave!
Not that I smoke, but I'm glad I didn't put my fag out in it then....
I've seen them on trees (in your post) but never from a piece of wood that's been incorporated into a building!
Did you look inside it? (tee-hee)
Chewy - I'm sure it probably had trash in it! It most certainly didn't have any sap in it!
