Spring pollen

pollen on the driveway

I remember my dad and brother getting really bad hayfever when I was a kid but I don't remember ever seeing as much pollen in the UK as I have done here. I specifically remember the first time I saw clouds of pollen blowing off some pine trees, the first spring that I was living in the US, and I know I hadn't seen anything like it before because the memory has stuck with me. After so many years here, it still surprises me when I go out in the morning and find the ground is yellow with pollen.

remind your brother never to visit you in the Spring.

Well, the implications are a bit gross (the pollen, not a visit...) - kind of like being in the middle of a bunch of tree sex.

I can recall being at our old house where there were lots of oak and pine trees. On a breezy day in the spring you would be out in the yard and clouds of pollen would just drift out of the trees - LOTS of pollen. There would be so much that it would look hazy out.

This is one of the greatest gifts about moving to the UK from the US...the lack of pollen! Good luck surviving the spring. It sure it terrible on allergies. :(
