  12. “42″ - is the answer to the ultimate question in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, which was a radio show before it became a book, computer game, comic book and TV show.

Now that you have them cited, yes, I know quite a few. Caught on the CBC from across the river, then on PBS.

The Two Ronnies, and Manuel, Dave Allen (I still tell some of the jokes learned from him), the Daleks, "my pussy..." comments from Mrs. Slocombe, and of course all things Douglas Adams. Stretched out over a long time, since none of this got to me first run.

Also - did anyone see the awful Royal Variety Command Performance where Tommy Cooper actually died on stage at the end of his act? It just looked like it was part of the act as he was joking about not knowing how to finish, then he fell back into the curtain. Awful.

What's really awful is that I find myself using phrases like this and Americans looking back at me with blank faces. I mean me saying: "I don't rightly know" in a funny Manchester voice means nothing to an American, who obviously does't get that it's an impression of Mavis from Coronation Street in the 1980s done in the style of Les Dennis!
