What to drink when you don't want a beer

I opened the fridge at my parents' house on my first day back there to discover there were several cans of Budweiser. (Don't try asking for a 6-pack of Bud in the UK by the way - beer's sold in fours over there.) I turned to my mum and said, "You didn't have to buy American beer for me - I'm quite happy to drink Heineken or Stella." "Oh we didn't buy it for you," was the response. "That's for your father when he doesn't want a beer."

There's a big conference of beer producers in the most beautiful town in the world: Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

At the end of the day, all of the presidents of all beer companies decide to have a drink in a bar. The president of 'Budweiser' orders a Bud, the president of 'Miller' orders a Miller Lite, Adolph Coors orders a Coors, and the list goes on.

Then the waitress asks Arthur Guinness what he wants to drink, and much to everybody's amazement, Mr. Guinness orders a Coke!

"Why don't you order a Guinness?" his colleagues ask.

"Naah. If you guys won't drink beer, then neither will I."

Well, now. I like beer. I like it a lot. I must admit a preference for good quality and craft brewed stuff.

Ales, stouts, porters, weiss, lambic, Belgian style, etc - you name it. My FIL always sees to it that when we go to visit the family in the UK that there is a variety of unique beers. (no Bud seen in the fridge when I visit!) When he and my MIL come to visit, I try to return the favor by having a good supply of wine, beer and cider in.

If you're going to have a glass of water, just pour it from the tap!

I love it! This is a standing joke in our house. Who on earth drinks something like Coors Lite? What's the point of having a beer if you're not actually 'having a beer?!'
Boddingtons is our beer of choice. We even took cans of it to a beer party before xmas where we all sampled different brands without knowing what they were. All our US friends loved it.
Now we've got really lucky and can get a pint on draft at a British bar in our small US town.

Hilarious. We just had a guest (American) who came with a case of Sam Adam's LITE! What the hell is that? He then proceeded to drink my hubby's Sierra Nevada and then on to wine. Grrr. We ended up chucking it out.

Shandy . . . Budweiser . . . Hmm, let me see - I'd rather have a shandy! Though the time I tried to make a shandy with my dad's Guinness I thought he was going to have a heart attack!
